Sorry Ball State, but the numbers right now don’t look good. The in-state foe comes to South Bend this weekend after a huge win for Notre Dame last week against Michigan. While this sounds like a classic “trap” game, I feel the opposite to be true.

What a great tune up game for a tough stretch here for ND. Although next week is a Vandy team that isn’t at the top of the SEC, they are a SEC team and can present a struggle at any point. They then play an away game against a Wake Forest team that shouldn’t be good.

Lastly, they hit the toughest part of the schedule with a home game against Stanford and an away game at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, VA.

Don’t get me wrong, their schedule has its perks, but tomorrow’s game should be a great way for multiple players at each position to get reps and get comfortable, which bodes well for later in the season.

Week 1: What We Learned

  1. Brandon Wimbush is a confident QB- something we haven’t seen in years past, but Wimbush looked confident making decisions and throwing the ball into coverage all night. The Senior did what he needed to make sure the offense stayed on the field. His decision making was a huge question mark many had at the beginning of the season. Although a small sample size, I think we have something here.
  2. The Defense is MUCH better- the ND defense showed up. Flat out. A young defense a year ago has proven to have some experience and a lot of talent. That doesn’t go unnoticed when last year your defense was sub par at best for most of the season. This is a huge bright side for the Irish.
  3. The stable of RBs is deep- I’ll be honest, after losing Josh Adams, I was quite nervous about where the Irish would be at RB this year. Needless to say, I have nothing to worry about. Jafar Armstrong is a solid starter, only as a Sophomore too, who can change a game in a matter of seconds.
  4. The WR depth chart isn’t as deep, but the guys up top are 🔥- one thing I noticed after watching the first quarter was that the Irish have some big wide outs who can go get some balls, which is right on target with who Wimbush needs.

All in all, I’m excited for another week of Irish football. I think a solid performance here can fine tune some things and get this offense and defense moving in the right direction.

42-10, ND

As always, LETS GO IRISH ☘️
